The City of Belleville’s Glanmore National Historic Site, under the Community Services Department, will officially open an exciting new immersive Victorian Kitchen exhibit on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
The exhibit features a new area of the historic house to explore! Visitors to Glanmore will enjoy an interactive space located on the lower level, where the original 1880s kitchen once was. Journey back in time to gain insight into Glanmore’s original kitchen facilities, the servants who worked in the home and household technologies of the past.
The newly designed kitchen exhibit is a result of extensive historical research by Dave Cox, Museum Technician and Danielle McMahon-Jones, Exhibition and Outreach Coordinator. “While not a restoration, the exhibit space invites you to walk right in, sit at the table, peek in the icebox and get a feel for an 1880s kitchen here at Glanmore,” says McMahon-Jones.
This immersive display features authentic kitchenware and equipment, interpretive panels detailing the original kitchen specifications, details about the servants who lived and worked there, as well as interactive elements. The exhibit will be on long-term display at the museum.
