School Programs

Consider Glanmore your community classroom, where history comes to life in inspiring and enriching ways. The museum is an exciting place to learn and discover and an important educational resource in Belleville.

Our education programs are designed to support the learning objectives of the Ontario curriculum through inquiry-based learning practices. A variety of programs are offered for school visits throughout the year. Custom programs can also be developed. All instruction is in English.

Cost: $3.00 (incl. HST) per student

  • Name of teacher/instructor
  • Name of school and address
  • Number of student participants
  • Two or three preferred dates for program
  • Any accessibility accommodations
  • Type of program (e.g. Victorian Christmas, Garden Games, local history, Victorian life, or alternate subject matter)
  • Transportation method (walking, taking a bus, etc.)
  • Indicate if the program will need to be invoiced to the school or payment will be made onsite at Glanmore

Tip: Book as early as possible as spaces fill up quickly!

 

VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS AT GLANMORE - GRADES 1-3 - Social Studies 

  • Available Late November and December 2025
  • 1.5 hrs.  – Guided Tour/Hands-on Activity
  • $3.00 Per Student, 30 students maximum

Glanmore is decked for the season! Step into a snapshot of Christmas Past to learn about how celebrations have changed over time. Share family traditions and learn about special ways we celebrate the holidays in this exploration of an 1890s Christmas in Belleville.  Students will also make an ornament to take home!

AT HOME WITH THE PHILLIPS - Grades 8-12 - History and Geography

  • Available Mid-January to March 2026
  • 1.5 hrs. - Guided Tour/Inquiry Based
  • $3.00 per student, 30 students maximum 

Explore the historic house to learn the story of Glanmore, the Phillips family and their servants. Climb the servant staircase, try the speaking tube system and experience Glanmore's new immersive kitchen exhibit. Discover what life was like for the women that lived and worked at Glanmore. This program incorporates primary source documents and role-playing activities that help students explore life at Glanmore at the turn of the 19th century. 

VICTORIAN GARDEN GAMES - GRADES K-6 - Social Studies, Physical Education

  • Available Late May - June 2026
  • 1.5 hrs. – Guided Tour/Hands-on Experience
  • $3.00 Per Student, 30 Students Maximum

Play is universal! Bring your students for a day of historic games and activities. Tour the historic house to find ways that people of the past liked to play, learn about traditional toys and games, and try them out for yourself. This program includes active play outdoors. Indoor games will be substituted during inclement weather.

HISTORIC HOUSE TOURS - Grades 5-8, 9-12 and Post-Secondary - Social Studies, Visual Arts etc. 

  • Available Year-round (except November and December)
  • 1.5 hrs. - Custom Guided Tour
  • $3.00 Per Student, 30 students Maximum

Explore Glanmore with a guided museum tour. Learn the story of Glanmore, the Phillips family and their servants. Climb the servant staircase, try the speaking tube system and discover what life was like for the servants who lived and worked here.  Learn all about Glanmore’s Second Empire Style architecture, extensive fine art collection and more! 

  • Historic House Tours can be tailored to meet a wide range of curriculum needs. Let us customize a tour for you!  

  • All programs are $3.00 (including HST) per student, unless otherwise noted. A limited number of adult supervisors are admitted free of charge.
  • Payment may be made upon arrival using cash, cheque, debit, Visa or MasterCard or teachers can take an invoice back to the school to submit for payment.
  • School programs are available Tuesday to Friday mornings. Start times are flexible between 9:15 and 11 AM. 
  • Booking confirmation and links to educator resources will be sent by email several weeks prior to your visit.
  • Notification of cancellation must be received at least two weeks prior to the program date or a $25.00 cancellation fee will apply (except in the case of school bus cancellation due to weather).
  • A bus loading and parking area is located beside the museum on the East side of Dufferin Avenue.
  • Due to space limitations in the historic house, school programs are limited to 30 students at a time. 

  • An accessible entrance enables visitors with mobility difficulties to access the main floor of the historic building. In periods of extreme cold the vertical lift may be out of service.
  • Programs usually take place on two floors of the building. With prior notice, programs can be adjusted for delivery on the main level only to better accommodate accessibility needs.
  • An accessible washroom is available in an out-building adjacent to the vertical lift and parking lot. Washrooms are located in the lower level of the building and are not fully accessible.
  • We are happy to work with you to find the best way to accommodate students during your visit. Please contact us in advance of your visit to discuss how we can best accommodate student needs.
