 What is "Commemorative Integrity"?

 According to Parks Canada, Commemorative Integrity describes the health and wholeness of a national historic site. A national historic site possesses commemorative integrity when:

  • the resources directly related to the reasons for designation as a national historic site are not impaired or under threat;
  • the reasons for designation as a national historic site are effectively communicated to the public; and
  • the site's heritage values (including those not related to designation as a national historic site) are respected in all decisions and actions affecting the site.
 What is a "Commemorative Integrity Statement?"
 According to Parks Canada, a Commemorative Integrity Statement is a document that identifies what is meant by commemorative integrity at a particular national historic site. It provides a baseline for planning, managing, reporting and taking remedial action.
